2503 - Culture & Values - 3 credit hours
Beginning with an overview of what determines culture and values, the course offers a theme-centered, interdisciplinary approach to perennial questions and topics in the artistic, historical, intellectual, literary, philosophical, and religious foundations of our culture. Topics will vary depending on the instructor(s) but may include: What does it mean to be human? What is the purpose of human suffering? What is courage? What is beauty? and/or themes such as love, fidelity, and enduring relationships; the individual in society and nature; the exile or stranger; utopias and dystopias; war and violence; justice and punishment. The course may be individually or team-taught. Prerequisite: ENGL 1023. Course rotation: Spring.
