I. Welcome and Opening Prayer by Carrie Farris. Dr. Stephenson has been ill and hospitalized. Please remember him in prayer.

II. Approval of minutes from last meeting (Feb. 27, 2014). Motion made by Charles Barnes, seconded by Gary Franklin.

III. Informational items

A.     Founder's Day Banquet   at 6 pm

B.     Alumni Events

a.       Bowling Green Hot Rods (August 8)

b.      Louisville Bats (August)

c.       Homecoming (Sept. 12-13)

C.     Commencement/Golden Alumni Society Induction

a.       May 10

b.      12 Members of Class of '64 have registered and expect 5-6 additional alumni guests to return from class of '63.

D.     Blue Raider Travel Club

a.       New York, New York - July 9-13

                                                                          i.      15 alum/friends registered to attend

E.      Blue Raider Classic Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble - tentatively Sept. 12- morning scramble.

F.      Alumni Giving Information

a.       742 alumni gifts as of today (+102 ytd)

b.      "Spread the Word - June 3rd" Young Alumni Donor Campaign

                                                                          i.      Theme is "Keep the Laughs Coming"

1.      A matching gift campaign will occur in the fall.

G.     Pre-Alumni Experience Program

a.       Senior Send-off Carnival sponsored by SARC (Tuesday April 29)

b.      Senior Gift Project

                                                                          i.      "Phillip the Pig" - Goals $2000 and 100% participation

                                                                          ii.      Project is to purchase pole banners for the campus to decorate with school colors/spirit.


H.     New SARC President Paula Adkins with a "Student Perspective"

a.       Kiss the Pig senior gift campaign has raised over $1100 so far. In the fall, SARC plans on doing an "Adopt a Meal" program at the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville. Money raised would go to purchase food for a meal to prepared and served to the families residing at RMH. Any left over money would be used to purchase toys for the Ronald McDonald toy drive.

I.        Next Alumni Council Meeting

a.       July 15 at 12:00 p.m. (Tuesday) at William T's

b.      September 13 at 2:30 p.m. (Saturday) in Clark Reading Room

IV. Old Business

A.     Alma Mater Competition Update

a.       Lyrics have been selected from alumni, students, and faculty and staff. The music writing campaign is underway now.

B.     Alumni Cookbook (Online Edition)-update by Allysa Gooden '08

C.     Growing the Alumni Walkway Endowment

a.       Current amount in fund - $20,739 (+$323.75 since last meeting)

b.      Currently $64,438.63 in Walkway Maintenance Account

1.      Adding new sections of walkway so will pull from the maintenance fund in the coming months.

c.       Update from Randy Burns '93 and Jerald Bryant '94

V. New Business

A.     Alumni and Friends Walkway Endowed Scholarship

a.       Received a total of 22 scholarship applications this year.

b.      Five finals selected by scholarship committee that have been distributed to council members.

c.       Review of finalists.

d.      The Council conducted a ballot and selected Jonathan Joseph and Ashley Perkins as the recipients of the 2014-15 Alumni Walkway Scholarship ($500 each). 

e.       Randy and Carrie discussed possible changes to the scholarship process next year including the development of an application and an essay prompt to be used by applicants.  Both of these will be developed by the Scholarship Committee. The suggestion was also made to find ways to encourage applicants to utilize the writing center prior to submission of their application.

B.     Need to Schedule a Nominating Committee meeting for June.

a.       Randy will work with committee members to schedule meeting.
