Students to Compete in National Business Event

Posted on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 [7:35 PM]

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Eight Lindsey Wilson College students are heading to Atlanta next week to show off their entrepreneurial acumen. The students are competing at the Atlanta Regional Competition on April 1-2. The event is one of 10 regional competitions being held across the United States in March and April.

Formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise, Enactus is a private organization supported by several dozen U.S. corporations and designed to encourage budding entrepreneurs among college students. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a more sustainable world.

The LWC Enactus team includes: Calab Bogard of Glasgow, Ky.; Robert Ferguson of Columbia; Curtis Hockersmith of Bowling Green, Ky.; Austin Howell of Bowling Green, Ky.; Morgan Johnson of Allons, Tenn.; Dina Jusufovic of Danville, Ky.; Mikayla Lyman of Boise, Idaho; and Jacob Pilling of Edmonton, Ky.

"We are very excited to bring Lindsey Wilson College's team of young entrepreneurs to Atlanta," said Jusufovic, LWC's captain. "We hope to showcase our team's focus on working today to make a better tomorrow."

The LWC will showcase four projects in the competition, including Ferguson's "Glasscrete Project," which keeps glass out of Adair County's landfill by using it as an aggregate in concrete for walkways, paving stones and patios. Ferguson has worked with several area businesses to collect glass for the project.

"I love how we are reducing waste and using things that were being just thrown away to make new things that people can use," LWC team member Bogard said. "All the support we got from the businesses in town really show that we are making a difference."

The team who wins at the Atlanta competition will advance to the 2013 Enactus U.S. National Exposition, held May 21-23 in Kansas City, Mo.
