COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Doug and Betty Jean Moseley of Bowling Green, Ky., love studying about the U.S. presidents. And now Lindsey Wilson College students will get to experience that same passion for learning.

On April 2, the Moseleys gave the LWC Katie Murrell Library more than 480 books about the U.S. presidents. The books are from research the Moseleys conducted for their latest book on the American presidents,
From G.W. to G.W. (From George Washington to George W. Bush), which will be published this summer.

The books will be housed in the library's Thomas D. Clark Reading Room. The Moseleys' books will sit alongside books once used by the late Kentucky historian laureate, who gave his personal library to the liberal arts college in 1997.

"What an incredible gift this is to our students," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. "It's so fitting that the Moseleys' books are housed in the same room as Dr. Clark's books because they are just as passionate about history and learning as he was."

LWC Director of Library Services Phil Hanna said students will benefit from having the books added to the library's collection. He noted that Moseley's books were given to the college almost a year after the personal library of the late Kentucky Supreme County Justice Walter Baker were donated to the library.

"We appreciate that so many people have taken an interest in our students' education by providing them with such outstanding resources," Hanna said.

The Moseleys worked at the college from 1959-70. Doug served as a religion professor and later chaired the religion department, and he was assistant to the president for development. Betty Jean taught English.

"I wish others could feel and know the same love from this college that we have experienced over the years," said Doug Moseley, who also served in the Kentucky state Senate from 1974-1986.

The Moseleys' book about U.S. presidents includes interesting facts and details about the nation's 43 previous chief executives.

"I was surprised at some of the things I learned about all of them," said Doug Moseley, adding that his three favorite presidents are Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt.

In addition to consulting more than 480 books, the Moseleys also visited each president's birthplace, burial site and presidential library/museum.

"That was a fabulous thing -- just being there where each president was born and grew up," Doug Moseley said.

Doug Moseley also served on the Kentucky Legislative Ethics Commission, the State Personnel Board, the Kentucky Parole and Probation Board, and has been a district superintendent of the Kentucky Parks Department. He also served as a pastor of United Methodist Churches in Albany, Campbellsville, Columbia, Park City and Russell Springs.
