2009 Opening Schedule
All times are central daylight.
Saturday, August
15
9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Move-in for all Freshman
Welcome to Campus! All students must check in at the small
tent on the lawn. You will be directed where to proceed from
there.
10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. -
Lunch
Join us for lunch in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining &
Conference Center or at one of the Pepsi trailers located around
campus. Lunch tickets can be picked up as you complete the move-in
process.
1:30 p.m. - Honors
Reception
Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship This invitation
only reception is for those students invited to take part in the
Honors Program.
2 p.m. -
Goodbye to Parents/Meet in Dorm
Time for final hugs and kisses! If you haven't already,
say goodbye to mom and dad and head to your dorm. All
students will walk to Biggers Sports Center with their residence
hall.
2 p.m. - Commuter Student
Reception
Lounge of J.L. Turner Leadership Center
All commuter students are required to attend this
introduction to commuter life on Lindsey Wilson's campus. Meet
other commuter students, play games and eat snacks.
2:30 p.m. - Kick-Off
Ceremony (Mandatory)
Biggers Sports Center
President Luckey, Justin Cason, Benson Sexton and a
student services representative. During this traditional event,
President Luckey will kickoff the new year. ALL new students,
commuter and residential, are expected to be in attendance for this
very important part of the orientation/registration process. New
students will have the opportunity to meet several important and
key individuals on campus.
3:30 p.m. -
HOORAY!
Biggers Sports Center
Take 400 people, put them in a space together for 1 to 2
hours....add music, balloons, hula hoops, as well as their energy
and imagination, then... Watch in amazement as the entire group is
transformed from individual classmates into a caring
community! Hooray! takes the elements of team-building with the
enthusiasm and energy of the participants to create a highly
enjoyable experience, creating a community out of strangers.
ALL FRESHMEN STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS PROGRAM.
5 p.m. -
President's Picnic
Lawn of the President's Home
ALL new students are invited to the home of Dr. and Mrs.
Luckey for a picnic. This is an annual event where you can meet and
get to know the president of the college. Please come and enjoy an
outdoor feast prepared by the fantastic Roberta D. Cranmer Dining
and Conference Center staff.
6:30
p.m. - First Hall Meeting
(required)
All new residential students must report to their individual
hall for the first hall meeting with the Resident Advisor
(R.A.).
7 p.m. -
Snacks/Music/Hang Out/Give-Aways on the Quadrangle

Sunday, August 16
10:30 a.m. - Church Service
Attend a church service at one of the local churches in
Columbia. Shuttles will be provided from campus by the individual
churches.

Activities
On the card enclosed, please select your top three choices of
the events listed below. Students will be assigned to an event on a
first come first served basis from the three selected. Upon
registration Saturday morning, students will be notified of which
event they will be participating in as well as any further
information with regard to their specific activity.
THE EVENTS ARE FREE TO ALL LWC FRESHMEN; EVERY STUDENT MUST
PARTICIPATE IN ONE ACTIVITY.
- Bowling Green Hot Rods Game
Enjoy America's favorite past time, right here in South Central
Kentucky! Come and watch as the Bowling Green Hot Rods take on the
Hickory Crawdads.
- Bowling in Campbellsville
Enjoy an afternoon of bowling at Phillip's Lanes in Campbellsville,
KY.
- SomerSplash
Cool off on Sunday afternoon at the SomerSplash water park
in Somerset, KY. Ride the water slides or kick back and relax
poolside.
- Mammoth Cave "New Entrance Tour"
Explore one of America's greatest natural wonders with a
tour of near-by Mammoth Cave.
- Louisville Zoo
Come partake in the wonders of nature at the Louisville Zoo. You
might even get a glimpse of the new baby giraffe!
- Canoe Trip on Green River Lake
Enjoy the waters of Green River Lake on this canoe trip.
All experience levels are welcome and will be under the supervision
of LWC professor Jerry Thomas.
- Girl's Only Afternoon
Get a quick massage, try different makeup samples and
techniques from professionals, or find some new jewelry. Enjoy a
fun and entertaining afternoon with just the girls in the
Student Union Building.
5 p.m. - Dinner

7 p.m. - Fear Factor and
Give-Aways
Come out to the Quadrangle and watch our 2nd Annual Fear Factor.
How daring do you feel? Even if you don't participate come watch
the fun and register to win prizes to be given away all night.
Monday, August 17

Meeting

ALL FRESHMEN ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS MANDATORY MEETING.
This is your opportunity to meet the Freshmen Seminar
instructors as well as the Peer Mentors that will be assisting in
your class.
9 a.m.- 4 p.m. - Placement
Challenge
If you could have scored better on your placement testing, you
may have the opportunity to take the Placement Challenge and test
out of a developmental class. The test will only be given to
students placed in a developmental Reading, Math, or English class.
All testing will take place in the Academic Success Center located
in the T.D. and Rowena Everett Building.
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.- Individual
Advising (Mandatory)
Individual advising appointments will be mailed to all students
for a short 15 minute required meeting with their
advisor.
10 a.m.-12 p.m. - "Where's my
Class?"
Have no idea where to find the W.W. Slider Humanities Building?
Can't find your advisor's office? Stop by the table in the Cralle
Student Union Building (SUB) and we'll help you find your way!
Experienced students will take you personally through your schedule
to find each and every one of your classes.
1 p.m. - Popsicles on the
Quadrangle
Grab a sweet treat before the afternoon becomes too
sweltering!
1 - 5 p.m. - MOVE-IN
Returning residential students may pick up keys in the Residence
Life Office, located in the Roundhouse.
2 p.m. - Dan Gediman: Reflections on
This I Believe (Mandatory)
Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship
American radio producer and performing songwriter. He is
the executive producer of the public radio series "This I Believe"
and co-editor, with Jay Allison, of the books This I Believe and
This I Believe II: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and
Women. He has won several public broadcasting awards, including the
duPont-Columbia Award.
5 p.m.-8 p.m. - BBQ on the
Quadrangle
Yee-haw, partner! Come out and enjoy this Western style BBQ
straight out of Texas, right in our own backyard! Not hungry? We'll
have cornhole and other games going on all night!

Pursuits (Mandatory)
The Quadrangle
ALL FRESHMEN ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS
TEAM-BUILDING SESSION THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
Learn, share and engage with other Lindsey Wilson students
in this opportunity to grow as individuals. Each section of
freshmen seminars will be assigned a specific time to attend. Pick
up your assigned time on Saturday at check-in.
9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Library Tour and Scavenger Hunt
(Mandatory)
Together as classes, each Freshmen Seminar group will be
required to attend one of the six sessions offered on utilizing the
library. In these sessions you will learn how to research correctly
and why Google is NO substitute for the library. As part of the
session, a scavenger hunt will ensue!

Join the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce in the gym
for one of the biggest nights on campus! Learn what Columbia has to
offer the students of Lindsey Wilson College. Prizes are given away
all night. Sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson Development Office.
8:30 p.m. - LIFE Meeting
Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship
Join this campus wide non-denominational group for a
praise and worship gathering.

Concert
Come catch LWC alumna, Amanda Lucas in this outdoor
concert!
Both formerly parts of other bands and solo acts, Amanda Lucas
and Audrey Cecil couldn't pass up the chemistry they found while
playing as a duo. Music served as the driving force for the
reconnection of these childhood friends after they had been out of
touch for over a decade. With their tight harmonies, catchy tunes,
and heartfelt lyrics; "Amanda Lucas and Audrey Cecil" have taken
their local music scene by storm.
