Associate Professor of Music Gerald Chafin will lead a
forum, "Insights for Artists and
Coping Skills for Everyone Else."
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A Lindsey Wilson College
professor will discuss how artists can confront the realities of
the marketplace while remaining true to their craft.
LWC Associate Professor of Music Gerald Chafin will lead a forum, "Insights for
Artists and Coping Skills for Everyone Else," from 4-5 p.m. CT
Thursday, Aug. 30, in W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall.
The talk is free and open to the public.
The purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity for
artists to meet with other artists and discuss realities of the
modern art world.
"The gathering for artists is intended to create a common
ground that is shared by all arts areas," said Chafin, who is LWC
director of choral ensembles. "Incredible talent just isn't enough
in today's art world, whether you're a musician, a painter, a
singer or a graphic designer. You have to have an
entrepreneur-spirit as well."
Those who attend Chafin's forum do not have to be an
artist.
"All you have to be is someone with an interest in an
arts-based area who'd like to meet other artists and share ideas,"
he said. "We have classes in art appreciation and music
appreciation to better understand the finer points of art and
music. Now, let's work at appreciating, or understanding, the
artists, the creators, themselves."
