COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College
National Alumni Association will honor two alumni and one longtime
employee of the college at this year's homecoming weekend.
LWC will celebrate its 80th-annual homecoming weekend on Oct.
21-22.
The theme of this year's homecoming is "Blue Raiders for
Life."
"Whether you graduated from Lindsey Wilson in the 1940s or in
the 21st century, the one thing you share in common is that you are
a Blue Raider for life," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Alumni
Relations Randy Burns.
Three individuals will be honored at the homecoming awards
brunch, to be held at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 22, in Roberta
D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.
The LWC National Alumni Association will present the
Distinguished Alumnus Award to longtime educator Bill
Mauney of Somerset, Ky., a 1961 LWC alumnus; Dr.
Ricky Farmer of Somerset, a 2001 alumnus, will receive the
Outstanding Young Alumnus Award; and Nancy
Sinclair of Summersville, Ky., who has been a Lindsey
Wilson staff member since 1987, will be named an Honorary Alumna of
the association.
"All three of these individuals epitomize what it means to be a
Blue Raider for life," Burns said. "They have dedicated their lives
to serving others and to making the world a better place through
their work."
This year's homecoming will include one new event -- the Helen
G. Flatt Homecoming Alumni Art Show. Alumni and friends are invited
to display original works of art in the Norma and Glen Hodge Center
for Discipleship. The show will be displayed throughout
homecoming.
The art show is named in memory of the late LWC professor, who
taught at the college for almost four decades.
"Helen Flatt was one of the giants in the 108-year history of
Lindsey Wilson," Burns said. "She not only taught art at the
college for nearly 40 years, but she also graduated from the
college as well. It's only fitting that we name our homecoming art
show in her honor because of the hundreds of alumni who knew
her."
Other events planned for this year's Lindsey Wilson homecoming
include the 11th-Annual Morris Shepherd '53 Pingpong Tournament,
the fourth-annual Running With the Blue Raiders 5K Run/Walk, a
Friday evening varsity men's soccer match at Walter S. Reuling
Stadium, a Friday night alumni men's basketball game at Biggers
Sports Center, and a reunion concert of alumni and current students
who have performed in Lindsey Wilson choral groups.
This will be the second year Lindsey Wilson's homecoming has
been celebrated around a football game. Last year's homecoming
celebrated the return of football after a 75-year hiatus from the
college, which Burns said made it a big success.
"We've had some great homecoming weekends on the hill, but
there's something about adding football that makes homecoming on a
small-college campus a great experience," he said.
