‘Safe Halloween’ to be Held Oct. 25 for Area Children

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Area children might want to
bring an extra-large bag to this year's "Safe Halloween" at Lindsey
Wilson College.
At least that's the advice from the college's residence life
officials.
Lindsey Wilson's 18th-annual "Safe Halloween" will be held from
6-8 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The annual event -- which is free and open to the public --
allows area children to collect candy by trick-or-treating through
the college's residence halls. Area children and their guardians
are led through decorated residence halls by LWC students; resident
students, many of whom are also in costume, hand out candy to
children. All items distributed are individually wrapped,
pre-packaged store-bought candy. The tour takes about 45 minutes to
one hour.
With the opening of Jerry and Kendrick McCandless Hall this
fall, children will now collect candy from LWC resident students in
six residence halls.
"We try to make sure they take home a lot of candy, and this
year that shouldn't be a problem with six residence halls part of
the tour," said Assistant Dean of Students Andy McAllister.
The six residence halls will be decorated in themes that will
range from the ghoulish to the comical.
"One of the things children like about touring the residence
hall is the differences between the halls and how they are
decorated," said LWC Director of Residence Life Heather Davis. "The students love to decorate
their halls. Some of the students spend weeks planning for this one
night because they love to entertain the kids who tour the
halls."
