COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A group of
Lindsey Wilson College students have a "once-in-a-lifetime"
opportunity to learn about the theater from the pros.
Members of the Lindsey Wilson Players have been invited to travel
April 13-15 to New York to meet with the cast of the revival of
Godspell. The rock musical about the gospel of St. Matthew
is currently being produced at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre; the Lindsey
Wilson Players will produce it April 25-28 at the college's V.P.
Henry Auditorium.
The Lindsey Wilson production will be directed by Assistant
Professor of Theatre Robert Brock with musical direction by
Associate Professor of Music Gerald L. Chafin.
While in New York, members of the Lindsey Wilson Players will get
to see a performance of Godspell and also attend a
workshop led by cast members.
For the last couple weeks, members of the Lindsey Wilson Players
have been calling alumni and friends of the college to raise money
to fund the trip.
One of the benefactors was LWC Associate Professor of Communication
Dan Koger, who gave $1,000 to the Lindsey
Wilson Players.
"It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that can't afford to be
missed," Koger said.
Cast member Hannah Peck of Columbia predicted that
Godspell "is going to be a fun, yet moving performance
that is sure to be one people will remember."
Added fellow cast member Chaz Dun of Columbia: "From the dancing to
the singing, Godspell is going to blow people away, I
think."
Brock said the Lindsey Wilson Players appreciate the assistance
they have received from alumni and friends of the college.
"It's been a really great response so far," Brock said. "This
opportunity came up at the last minute, and I wanted to find a way
to let the students make this trip because it will be an incredible
experience for them. They will get to learn about musical theater
from some of the pros."
