COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College Singers will present their annual spring homecoming concert this Wednesday night.

The LWC Singers will perform at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 20, at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg St. The concert is free and open to the public.

The 28-member choral group will perform 15 spiritual selections, most of which were either written or arranged from the mid-19th to late 20th centuries. The Singers are under the direction of LWC Associate Professor of Music and Religion and Director of Choral Program Gerald Chafin.

"The concert has something that people who like music and know music can enjoy, but it also has something for people who don't know music can enjoy," said soprano Alex Cogdell of Louisville, Ky. "The selections appeal to both musicians and non-musicians alike."

This year's homecoming concert welcomes the Singers back from a tour that included stops in Louisville, Ky., Tacoma, Wash., and Anchorage, Alaska.

"It was an amazing experience, I've never experienced something like that," said soprano Chelsea Pike, a freshman from Campbellsville, Ky.

In Alaska, the Singers performed a couple churches and also at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

"The experience of each tour is radically different," Chafin said. "This tour was a top-10 tour because of the absolute uniqueness of it."

In addition to performing, the 28 student performers also took in the sights of the Last Frontier, which included chasing whales, having a snowball fight and dining on moose.

"You just can't describe the kind of experience we had," said tenor Tyler Stephens. "I think we were in awe of the beauty of what we saw."

The Lindsey Wilson Singers will perform at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 20, at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg St. For more information, contact Gerald Chafin at chafing@lindsey.edu or (270) 384-8084.
