Father-Son Duo to Give Thanksgiving Concert

Guitarist Jon Reynolds will join his father, LWC Professor of
Music Robert Reynolds,
for a Nov. 21 concert.
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College will
host a concert to put people in the mood of the season. The
father-son duo of Robert and Jon Reynolds will perform "A
Thanksgiving Cornucopia Concert" at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 21,
in the W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. The concert --
which is part of the 2010-11 Lindsey Wilson Cultural Affairs Series
-- is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature "seasonally selected, and somewhat
unusual, guitar and piano music," said Robert Reynolds, who is a pianist and
professor of music at Lindsey Wilson. Guitarist Jon is from Fort
Mitchell, Ky.
The Sunday afternoon concert will offer an eclectic fare of
music, including selections by classical composers Mozart and
Tchaikovsky as well as modern composers Vince Guaraldi and George
Winston.
"The pieces are mood-setting pieces about fall, autumn,
Thanksgiving and the season," Robert Reynolds said. "People will
recognize the pieces, and they will be put in mood for the season
upon us."
For Jon Reynolds, the Sunday performance is an opportunity to
return to a place responsible for his love of the arts.
"One of my earliest experiences at Lindsey Wilson dates to 1983
when I saw a production of A Christmas Carol in the
college's V.P. Henry Auditorium when I was a mere 11 years old,"
said Jon Reynolds, who is now an English as a second language
coordinator with Kenton County Adult Education at Gateway Community
and Technical College. "I am pretty sure that wasn't the first time
I had been on the campus, but I can state with certainty that it
was the most vivid.
"Lindsey Wilson College and I have watched each other grow up,
and though I don't get to come back and see it as much as I used
to, I will continue to 'honor it in my heart -- in the past,
present, and future.'"
Jon Reynolds did not take up the guitar until after he graduated
from nearby Centre (Ky.) College. Since then, he and his father
have given public concerts about every two years.
Robert Reynolds said that because of professional and family
responsibilities, he and his son don't get many chances to perform
in public. That's another reason why he is looking forward to this
Sunday's performance.
"I never pushed Jon to study music, but he as always enjoyed
it, and it's a lot of fun to perform with him -- especially around
the holidays," Robert Reynolds said.
