COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Area children have two
opportunities this summer to unleash their creative energy at
Lindsey Wilson College.
The LWC Theatre Program will hold two sessions of
TheatreFest! Summer Camp, both for area children from ages 8-18.
The sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-noon CT June
10-14 and from 9 a.m.-noon CT June
Each session will be different, but both sessions will
include lessons in acting, movement, stage combat and singing. The
cost for each weeklong session is $75. Children may enroll in
either or both sessions. Each session will conclude with a showcase
performance by campers.
The sessions will be taught by LWC Assistant Professor of
Theatre Robert Brock and LWC Theatre
"This should be very exciting," said Brock, who is also
TheatreFest! artistic director. "It's a wonderful way to expose
children to the performing arts."
Middle school and high school students will work on scenes
from plays, while younger children will help create their own
"This is about about creativity," Brock said.
"This isn't a camp designed for children who want to have a career
in the theater. Rather, it's about helping young people learn how
to be creative, and it's great way to experience what it's like to
perform in front of people."
Brock said TheatreFest! Summer Camp is also "excellent
preparation for students for when they have to make presentations,
for example in school or in church youth groups."
Exposing younger children to the performing arts is
also beneficial, Brock said.
"For the younger children especially, it's about engaging
their creativity and getting them to explore and learn new things,"
