COLUMBIA, Ky. -- This year's Adair County Fund
Drive for Lindsey Wilson College students will remember the career
of one of the county's greatest citizens -- the late Don
Franklin.
Franklin, whose business interests included a car dealership,
died in 2008. But his legacy continues to live on, according to LWC
Adair County Fund Drive Chair Jim Caywood.
"Don's Christian witness and passion for Adair County were an
inspiration to us all," Caywood said. "After his passing, one
person wrote that he was a 'one-man urban renewal project.'"
In honor of Franklin's impact on the county, this year's Adair
County drive has been named the Don Franklin Spring Drive of 2011.
All gifts made during the drive, which runs through June 30, will
provide scholarship support for Adair County residents who attend
Lindsey Wilson.
This school year, 348 residents are enrolled at the college. A
total of 97 percent of LWC undergraduate students receive financial
aid, and more than 85 percent of LWC undergraduate students are the
first in their family to attend college.
"Don was a true friend," Caywood said. "I heard him say to
someone on the phone once, 'If I said it, that's it.' That was Don.
You didn't have to worry about him changing his mind on any
discussion no matter what."
