COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Area children will have an opportunity to
be delighted, entertained and scared a little at this year's
Lindsey Wilson College "Safe Halloween."
The annual trick-or-treat affair trip the college's
residence halls will be held from 6-8 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 29,
in the Cralle Student Union Building, 420 Helen Flatt Drive. The
event, which is sponsored by the LWC Office of Residence Life, is
free and open to the public.
Last year's "Safe Halloween" drew a record number
of participants as more than 700 area children collected candy from
LWC residence life officials hope that record will
be broken this fall, the 20th annual year LWC has offered the event
to the region's children.
"We really saw our program catapult last year, and
we're really excited about that -- and we're hoping to see that
same kind of improvement this year," said LWC Director of Residence
Life Jordan Willis.
LWC students will escort children and their family
members through residence halls. The four residence halls featured
in this year's "Safe Halloween" will include the Horton Hall Complex, Jerry and Kendrick McCandless Hall and Phillips Hall. The residence halls will be
decorated in themes that include a tribute to Disney and Pixar
films and a haunted hall.
"We try to be very creative in how we decorate the
hallways, and I think it's always interesting to just see how much
we can spark a child's imagination through our decorations," said
McCandless Hall Resident Director Khyati Patel.
Children will receive store-bought, packaged candy
from student residents. The tour will take less than an

Willis said younger children -- and squeamish
adults -- can avoid touring the scarier residence halls.
"A lot of the older kids really enjoy the scarier

residence halls, games and activities will be offered in the Cralle
SUB and on the Campus Quadrangle, including pictures with Blue
Willis, who has been involved with "Safe Halloween"
for a decade as a student and as an LWC staff members, said the
