Coach Edwin Hagans begins hisfourth season in 2008-09 as cross
country and track & field coach at Lindsey Wilson College.
In his first three seasons as cross country coach, Hagans has
turned the Blue Raiders into one of the top programs in the
Mid-South Conference. The women's team captured each of the last
two Mid-South Conference championships in 2006 and 2007 and the
men's team won the program's first MSC championship in 2007.
Hagans owns four MSC Coach of the Year awards in his short
tenure. He was named MSC Women's Cross Country Co-Coach of the Year
in 2005 and was named men's and women's MSC Coach of the Year in
2006, Last season, he was selected MSC Men's Cross Country Coach of
the Year voted on by his peers.
Under Hagans' direction, nine men and eight women harriers
earned all-conference honors. Hagans has also coached one NAIA
All-American.
In addition to his cross country coaching duties, Hagans leads
the indoor and outdoor track and field teams during the spring
season.
The Blue Raiders have scored in each of the three seasons at the
NAIA Track & Field National Championships. The Lindsey Wilson
men's track & field team finished a team-best 20th in the 2006
outdoor national championships.
Hagans has been named MSC Coach of the Year in women's track
& field twice and men's track & field once. He has coached
16 all-conference selections, including a player of the year and
nine NAIA All-Americans.
Prior to Lindsey Wilson, Hagans served as an assistant coach in
track and field at Berea (Ky.) College. While an assistant coach at
Berea, Hagans coached six track and field national championship
participants. Two became All-Americans, one was a two-time national
champion, and one was an All-American in two events.
Prior to his coaching career, Hagans was a four-year letter
winner in track as an undergraduate. He earned All-American honors
in the 400-meter hurdles in 1995 and was selected Most Valuable
Track and Field Athlete at Berea College in three of his four
seasons.
Aside from his coaching, Hagans served as a professor of fitness
and wellness at Eastern Kentucky University while earning his
Masters of Science in sports administration. Hagans was also a
personal trainer in Orlando, Florida.
Hagans and his wife, Mandy, reside in Columbia and have one son,
Adin.
